Match permissions to the whole trade
For a strategy that holds through announcements or market closures, entry permission is only part of the problem. A stop-loss, take-profit or pending order can execute later, and a scheduled closure can interrupt a position already open. Compare the rules against the complete lifetime of the trade. Record the affected instruments, restricted window, official calendar and stage of the program. This is more precise than classifying a firm as simply allowing or banning news trading.
FTMO distinguishes execution from holding
FTMO’s current news FAQ restricts execution on affected instruments within two minutes before and after specified releases, subject to listed exceptions. It includes stop-loss and take-profit execution, not just manually submitted orders. Positions opened earlier may be held, while Swing accounts and Challenge or Verification accounts are exempt from that restriction. The same strategy can therefore encounter different permissions after evaluation. Check the economic calendar’s restricted-event designation and the relevant instrument list rather than assuming every announcement is treated identically.
Market closures create another requirement
FTMO’s holding FAQ requires affected account types to close positions before market breaks longer than two hours. It lists Swing and evaluation accounts as exceptions. Its separate Swing FAQ says that account type is available through the 2-Step product and carries lower base leverage than Standard. These conditions should be assessed together. A strategy that depends on holding over a closure needs the relevant permission from purchase, rather than discovering after passing that the operating rules have changed.
The5ers applies a defined news window
The5ers’ dedicated High Stakes news FAQ allows holding existing trades through announcements but restricts opening new positions within two minutes before and after relevant high-impact events. It identifies Forex Factory and server time as its references. Profits from prohibited entries are deducted while losses remain. The FAQ expressly distinguishes new market or pending-order entries from existing positions with preset exits. This makes it especially important to read the specific policy rather than importing another firm’s definition of restricted execution.
Build the calendar into the process
Translate the relevant schedule into the platform’s time zone and review positions before each restricted event or closure. Include pending orders and automatic exits in that review, then retain the calendar version used. This does not require predicting whether the announcement will move prices; it requires knowing what the account permits. When a strategy’s normal behavior repeatedly conflicts with those permissions, account selection becomes a strategy-fit issue. Changing only the entry time may leave the later execution problem unresolved.
