Separate the trading record from the cash payment

A simulated account can track positions against market prices and calculate a performance result without sending each participant order to a broker or exchange. A provider can nevertheless make a real reward payment under its contract. The payment and the execution history are separate questions. FundedNext’s own program explanation describes simulated funding and rewards, while Topstep explicitly distinguishes simulated Express accounts from Live accounts. These are examples of disclosed arrangements. They do not establish how every online firm manages exposure or whether a particular trader’s signals are used elsewhere by the business.

Why a simulated profit is not automatically market revenue

A profitable result in a simulation is an accounting output of that environment. It does not establish that another market participant paid the provider the same amount. If the provider owes a cash reward based on that result, the obligation must be financed from the firm’s available resources under its operating model. Those resources might have several sources, but identifying them requires disclosure. It is therefore inaccurate to subtract a reward share from simulated profits and automatically label the remainder the firm’s realized trading revenue. The two amounts arise from different accounting questions.

Live execution introduces a different set of mechanics

In a live account, actual orders interact with market liquidity and the relevant execution arrangements. Fill quality, transaction costs, position financing and the timing of orders can affect realized outcomes. Topstep describes its Live Funded Account as involving its real capital, which distinguishes that stage from its simulated Express product. Even where a firm uses signals from simulated activity, it would be unsafe to assume a perfect one-for-one copy with identical fills, size and timing. A public statement about possible signal use cannot establish the results of an undisclosed trading book.

Read the contract for the facts that matter

A clear comparison asks whether the account is simulated, what generates a reward entitlement, which entity owes the payment, and what conditions can limit or delay it. It also asks whether a live transition exists and how it is determined. Keep these questions separate from testimonials about payments. A verified payment can support the narrow fact that money reached a recipient; it does not prove the firm’s reserves, all customers’ outcomes or its execution model. This distinction supports more accurate reporting and helps traders understand the service they are actually using.
